Brunker's Llanegwad

John Brunker

John Brunker

John Brunker was the Headmaster at Llanegwad School, and a member of the Carmarthenshire Antiquarian Society. His great interest in the parish led him in 1937 to publish Brunker's Llanegwad. It is regarded as the definitive work on the parish. A copy is in Carmarthen's library.

Llanegwad village school was closed in 1948 and became the village hall. It was later sold as a house due to the high cost of installing toilets. It is located opposite the Church room in Llanegwad Village.

Apart from his schoolwork he was interested in archaeology and found many coins which are now in Carmarthen's museum. His only child, Beryl Harries Brunker became a schoolmistress and married Leslie Nelson, a Clerk in Holy Orders on August 16 1944. The couple eventually emigrated to New Zealand.

Beryl Nelson [nee Brunker] was still living in New Zealand in April 2000. A branch of the family remains in the UK.

Brunker's Llanegwad is available on CD in Adobe pdf format along with other material about the parish of Llanegwad.
