Brynamlwg

There are two properties of this name in the parish of Llanegwad. Both are located on the Abergorlech Road at Felingwm Isaf.

Census details give them as Brynamlwg Isaf and Brynamlwg Uchaf. Brynamlwg Uchaf is set above the road overlooking Sittim Baptist Chapel.

In 1841 the Thomas family were living at Brynamlwg and John Thomas was a blacksmith there for some years. He and his wife Sarah Jones Thomas had six children: Mary, John, William, Lettice, George and Eleanor Thomas.

Sarah was the daughter of Lettice Thomas. Lettice was a housemaid in Aberdare in 1861 and at some stage had a child called Sarah. Lettice married William John Thomas in Aberdare in 1861 and she had another daughter, Annie, who was born in 1862. William John Thomas may have been the father of her first child, Sarah

1891 Census, Llanegwad

According to this Census John Thomas was living at Brynamlwg, Velingwm. He was aged 83 and a retired blacksmith. John died sometime after the 1891 census was taken. His wife, Sarah Jones Thomas had died on 26 April 1884 and was buried in the graveyard at Sittim Chapel. A Dinah Thomas of Penycnwc, near Brynamlwg, was present at the death of Sarah Thomas in 1884.
