Around Carmarthenshire

Contact the Welsh Tourist Board or Local Tourist Information Centres for in-depth information

The fertile land of Carmarthenshire has given the county the title of the “Garden of Wales”, but the price to be paid for this accolade is rain, and lots of it.

The county has strong agricultural links and sheep and cattle are seen everywhere. Locally produced food can be found in markets and eating places throughout the area.

There are plenty of places to visit, including castles, gardens and old houses. The younger element is catered for by theme parks and superb beaches and country parks. You can visit the Roman gold mines at Dolaucothi or explore limestone caves and underground tunnels at Carreg Cennen castle if you don’t suffer from claustrophobia. The Boathouse at Laugharne, where Dylan Thomas lived and worked, is also a popular tourist attraction.

Walkers and cyclists will enjoy the 20km coastline of the Millennium Coastal Park which features a wide variety of attractions linked together by traffic-free cycle and walking paths.
