Marked as Escaer Olwyn (2¼ miles north­west of Ynyswen) on Colby's Map of 1831; Esger-holiw farm, 1862. It was held by minor gentry families. 

In 1630 William Griffith Nicholas and his son John, gentlemen, sold the capital messuage called Tythyn Yskeyr Heylyw, and other lands in Llanegwad, to William Jenkin David, after which it changed hands several times. 

In 1706 Esger Hoeliw comprised 356 acres, and in 1720 Richard Jones, gent., eldest son of John Thomas was the owner.
