Gilfach Wen is a working farm with a strong emphasis placed on working with nature. The farm is managed under a Countryside Council for Wales scheme called “Tir Gofal” where the focus is placed on farming in an environmentally friendly way and managing the land for bio diversity and the benefit of wildlife.
The farm is a venue for Lantra accredited courses for equestrians, smallholder’s and farmers who are interested in managing land and caring for animals in as natural a way as possible. Separate paddocks are reserved for visiting horses.
Accommodation
Gilfach Wen Barn has been designed to cater for large groups or extended families.
There are three bedrooms each containing 2 double beds and 2 singles, and one room containing a double bed and 3 singles. There is also a double bedroom, and two bedrooms containing a double and a single bed.
Individuals can book either one of the individual rooms or a bunk in one of the larger bedrooms in which case you may be sharing with others. Groups can book either a room or the whole barn on a sole use basis.
Kitchen
A modern fully equipped self catering kitchen makes self-catering both easy and enjoyable. The kitchen is large and fully equipped to commercial standards, with 2 sinks, 2 cookers, fridge/freezer, microwave and toasters, as well as all the pots, pans and crockery and storage you will need.
Dining area
The dining area is large enough to allow your group to all sit down together to enjoy the results of your labour in comfort and style. There are picnic tables and a barbecue in the garden for parties.
Living room
The 40 ft x 20 ft living room offers a friendly social atmosphere, with board games, books, jigsaws, TV and stereo available.
Underfloor heating throughout with individual themostatic contols for each room ensures you can always determine the temperature inside if not outside.
Shower rooms & toilets
There are four shower rooms (with plenty of piping hot water – great after a day in the forest), and four separate toilets with hand-basins.
Drying room
The Drying room allows you to at least start the day dry! There’s also a large outdoor washdown area for bikes, horses and muddy children of all ages.
Safe storage
Lockable storage for cycles and saddles or other tack and small paddocks available for visiting horses.
Keycode entry
The front door keycode lock gives guests 24 hour access and peace of mind. No curfew, no membership required.
Parking
Plenty of parking on a hard surface.
Recycling
Gilfach Wen Farm tries to minimise its ecological footprint by conserving and recycling as much as possible. Recycling and composting bins are provided.
