Charities Commission Report of 1836
The name Pantyrewig also appears also as Pant-yr-ewig, both with and without the hyphens, in other documents.
The property lies about 2 miles north of Nantgaredig, just off the road to Brechfa [B4310]. John Rees is described as 'of Pant yr ewig, gent.', in 1734. He was a church-warden in 1746, and in 1760 High Sheriff.
In 1760 his name appears in the list of magistrates, and is still in the 1787 list. His estate consisted of the capital messuage of Pant yr ewig, and the messuages of Alltygole, Gilfach Henry, Gilfach Garadog, Dol Dewisty, Caeau’r Cefn, and Gelliglyd.
He had a son, also named John Rees. By his wife Jennet (who married secondly William Rees of Towy Castle) he had a daughter, Mary who married Lewis Lewis, gent., son of the Revd. David Lewis (of the same family as Mansel Lewis of Stradey Castle).
The property passed to Leoline Jones, Esq., of Carmarthen, who married Anne, daughter of William and Anne Bonville of Carmarthen in 1816.
By 1839, Pant yr ewig (then 131 acres) was owned by William George Tardew of Pibwr-wen, gent., described as the capital messuage of Pantyrewig, “formerly known by the several names” of Pantyrewig, Penycnwc, Llainddyvn, Dwyr, Park y felin, Alltgoch Veldaistra, Gilfach Gradog, Dole Dwysty, Clyncoed and Miros Hall, in Llanegwad.
William George Tardew married Louise Jones of Carmarthen.
In 1845 the Revd. Lewis Jones and Sarah, his wife, were living at Pantyrewig.
On the old stables is a stone inscribed “J. Rees, Esq., A.D. 1766”.
