Brechfa and Llanfihangel

to join Llanegwad group of churches

(24 December 2006)

The Church in Wales is under extreme financial pressure, because of falling numbers of worshippers and low levels of income from those that do support the church.

In the Diocese of St Davids the number of paid priests will have to be cut from 120 to 84, but the Bishop would like to retain 100, 16 more than the Church in Wales will fund.

In effect it means that there will not be a Vicar in Brechfa. It is suggested that Abergorlech joins up with the Llansawel Group while Brechfa and Llanfihangel join Llanegwad, whose Vicar at the time of writing was the Revd Philip Johnes.

The exact way that the parishes are put together is negotiable but the presence of a vicar in Brechfa is not.
