Old Carmarthen Farmers Building

Carmarthen Farmers building, Station Road, Nantgaredig

The building is located on Station Road, approximately half a mile from the crossroads at Nantgaredig. It stands opposite Station House and alongside the line of the railway which closed in November 1963. The date on the building is 1926. After serving the local community since then the company closed the Nantgaredig branch in 2001 and local business was transferred to new purpose-built premises at Parc Pensarn, Carmarthen.

The premises were then used as a warehouse but petrol and heating oil remained on sale at the rear of the premises for a short time. The fuel depot later closed and the building remained empty until early in 2005 when the rear part of the building was demolished as can be seen below.

The photograph below was taken on 19th August 2005 and the price was on the forecourt was still shown as 75p for a litre of 4 star, the price when petrol sales ceased in 2001.

The Parc Pensarn premises became the Head Office of the company and also replaced the Fair Lane branch (near the old cattle market site) in Carmarthen. The historic cattle market has also moved out of the town to new premises at Nantyci, west of Carmarthen. In 2005 and 2006 new buildings were erected towards the rear of the site.
