The Llandeilo - Abergwili Junction Branch Line - 2
Branch Line Overview Nantgaredig Station Golden Grove
Abergwili and Dryslwyn
Abergwili Junction was bulldozed into oblivion when a dual carriageway was built from near Whitemill on the A40 eastwards to join up with the A48 on the south side of the River Towy at Carmarthen between 1999 and 2001. The roadworks included a new road bridge over the river.
Dryslwyn Station is almost complete (although now a private residence} and the platform and line of track bed are easily visible on the east side of the road. The west side is overgrown and trees grow along the track bed. The level crossing gates remain as a memorial to glories past, the tracks crossing the road having long since disappeared.

In 2002 Carmarthen has one station, on the south side of the River Towy, close to the town’s historic bridge. What is not generally realised is that in the heyday of steam the station was at Myrtle Hill, Pensarn, and the river crossing was via a bascule bridge. There were also engine workshops and sidings of a considerable size. Remnants of these can be identified in Jewson’s builders’ merchants yard.
